ROCHEFORT

ROCHEFORT BRAND

The Trappist beer of Rochefort is a brown beer of high fermentation. It is brewed and bottled in the seclusion of the Abbey of Our Lady of Saint-Remy in Rochefort. The abbey was founded in 1230 and is part of the Order of the Cistercians of Strict Observance. The name Trappist was derived from the historical links with the Abbey of La Trappe in France. This abbey has played an important role in the reform of the Order of Cistercians in the 17th century.
The moderate dimensions of the Brewery make that the monks and their collaborators can have full control over the production and fabrication of their beer. The traditional character of their beer is widely appreciated among gourmets.
Three types of beers are brewed at Rochefort: the Trappist Rochefort 6, 8 and 10. These numbers have been preserved due to their relation to the tradition and in no way relate to the alcohol content. The numbers 6,8 and 10 are the old legal Belgian units of measure of the gravity of the wort (before fermentation).
The Rochefort 8 and 10 are brown, but with a gradation in the tinge depending on their respective titles. The Rochefort 6 is an amber beer.
This quality beer should be consumed with care and modesty: it is an ideal beer to enjoy in the company of goods friends!
